My experience with the 500/4 VR is quite good.   I can handheld it down to about 1/200 sec.  

On the other hand I found it very difficult to get a sharp photo handhelding the Sigma 500/4.5, even at much higher speed.

I'll try that too.  I am still experimenting with this lens.  

I didn't use MLU in Napel because it affects my speed.   I want to get as many frames as possible .... the classic machine-gun approach!
