Dear HBW photographer,
We are writing to you to inform you that we are now ready to begin receiving photos for possible publication in Volume 14 of the Handbook of the Birds of the World. As you may already know, the tome will cover the following families:Volume 14: Bush-shrikes (Malaconotidae), Helmet-shrikes (Prionopidae), Vangas (Vangidae), Drongos (Dicruridae), Wattlebirds (Callaeidae), Stitchbird (Notiomystidae), Magpie-larks (Grallinidae), White-winged Chough and Apotlebird (Corcoracidae), Woodswallows (Artamidae), Bristlehead (Pityriaseidae), Butcherbirds (Cractidae), Birds-of-paradise (Paradisaeidae), Bowerbirds (Ptilonorhynchidae), Crows (Corvidae), Oxpeckers (Buphagidae), Starlings (Sturnidae) and Old World Sparrows (Passeridae).

You can check the species considered for HBW-14 in the attached Word file.
Please send any photos you wish to be considered for publication in this volume as soon as possible, and by mid of November at the latest. We would like to remind you that wherever possible we prefer photos of birds in which aspects of behaviour such as breeding, predating, feeding, locomotion, etc. are illustrated. Although those photos which have clearly been taken in the wild stand a better chance of being selected, we are aware that we might also have to include portraits and pictures of birds in captivity. You might also like to note that we offer a fee of 120US$ for the non-exclusive, one-time use of each image published in Volume 14.All photographic material should be sent to the following address:José Luis CopeteLynx EdicionsMontseny, 808193 Bellaterra, BarcelonaSpainShould you have digital photographs that you would like to submit, please send them on a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM for PC. We  kindly request  you to label each of the photograph files including the scientific name of the species shown  together with the  initial of your first name and  your surname, and the location where the photo was taken. For example:

Passer domesticus Barcelona Spain John Smith.jpeg

Please, note it's very important to separate with spaces each word in the file. Do not use, please, other ways to write the information in the file. We also would acknowledge the use of scientific names, rather than English names. The attached document will help on this. We would be very grateful if you could send the files  following this procedure. Provided we are comparing the photos by families and species,  this  labelling method will allow us to save time during the long selection process.
Moreover, we should receive digital files in high quality resolution (the original, high-resolution, uncropped file). You can send the primary RAW-TIFF file saved as JPEG 12 AS FIRST SAVING after simple normal correction of histogramm TIFF in Photoshop (without any filters or tricks), or just the original raw files.
DO NOT SEND SCANNED SLIDES as we prefer to receive original slides rather than scanned files, since the resulting file is usually not of as high quality as the original photo.
You can also send reduced versions (preferably jpeg) by email, to make the sending faster. However we prefer to receive the original files, as stated before.Should you send us your photos by courier, in order to avoid being charged high customs duties, we would kindly ask you please to clearly write the following on the parcel and delivery note: 'Sample slides for scientific use. Of no commercial value. To be returned to sender'. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.Do not hesitate to contact us should you have any questions about any of this.

The slides received to cover HBW-13 will be returned during the coming weeks. At the same time, will be sent the letters informing of the photos selected, as well as the payments orders for the use of these photos. HBW-13 is scheduled to be published at beginning of October. If you have some question regarding this, please write me.We look forward to hearing from you soon, and of course, to receiving your photos! With best wishes from the HBW team,José Luis CopeteHandbook of the Birds of the WorldLynx EdicionsMontseny, 8E-08193 Bellaterra, Barcelona, Spain.Phone: +34-93 594 77 10Fax: +34-93 592 09 69jlcopete@hbw.comwww.hbw.com
